My characters usually deal with some sort of trauma, making the best of it before a sudden impulse makes them eventually strive to overcoming it. The story I started last year - Bound - I will continue this year. MMC Vincent's a detective with the New Yorker Police and traumatized by his assignment on 9/11. The story set in shortly after his burn-out caused by the trauma being triggered... FMC Laura has lived a superficially perfect childhood and youth, but beneath the surface... she suffered from bullying at school, sexual molestation (and being left alone with it), watching crucial and beloved family members die at a young age, her parents warring (often physically violent) over her father's betrayal, etc. She's multiply traumatized but managed through an incredible ability to adapt and survive an almost normal life... until she's dumped by her latest boyfriend (on her birthday!) and - later the same day - confronted with the (to her) quite attractive but unhinged Vince... which in turn begins to unhinge her. Very warped, those two... but this year's story has something good for them in store... and sexy! Their hard trauma work will definitely be rewarding. |
