Characters can demand their way in a story. Even if it doesn't fit or seems out of place, allow it to develop and eventually, it will find it's place or will find it's place in another book or story. When I first heard characters write the story, I didn't understand what that meant. I was very surprised when some characters wrote a story I was working on. I still remember the feelings although I no longer feel them and remember them so that I can explain them. I have loads of fun allowing characters to do what they do best which is be in the story and do their things. Actually, a landscape/scene can be alive and become more and more of its mature self as you move forward in a story.
