Not only is this normal, but it's exactly WHY WE PREP! Can you imagine, you've got your whole novel figured out...in your head and you get to writing NaNo. Then, suddenly, things start changing. Characters aren't cooperating. The whole plot take a hard right and you're left thinking "What is happening here?!? The last 18,000 words now make no sense for what is happening at this point!" Yep, it happens. Better let it happen during Prep than in the middle of NaNo where not only will work be possibly "wasted," but you could end up spending valuable hours or days trying to figure out where to go from here.
