As to where the plot should start, I would like to recommend in media res (Latin for "the thing in the middle"). Start in the middle of some piece of action. One thing that I feel should be avoided is starting with description. Another thing to remember is that the plot is the series of things that happen that drive the story from one scene to the next. But non-linear narrative can be an effective tool for hiding elements of the tale from the reader as well, until you want them to know. Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth; feel free to ignore. |
