Group Discussion Question # 1 1. How important is the title of a story or novel? I feel that the title is very much important. It is part of the Hook. I personally scan the titles when I look for a new book. Then, if one jumps out at me, I do the ultimate test—I read the first few pages. It, more than likely, will go home with me. In the case of a tie, and I am torn between more than one book, it turns out not to be a contest; they all come home. 2. Do you think the title should reflect more on the story as a whole or a certain aspect or theme of the story? If a title is intriguing, it helps promote the story or novel. For example, I am currently working on a story. This story is a mystery (with romance ). Booze, money, wine, and humans were not the only things smuggled in and out of the country. Diamonds were a hot commodity. It just so happens that a 41 million dollar 7-karat Dresden diamond was stolen and never recovered. the title of my story is The Booklegger Moon. 3. How much time do you spend on your story and or book titles? The truth is I take anywhere from one week to 4 weeks. I do a lot of note-taking and What-ifs. If nothing else pops up, it's a go. Chrys |
