This is the third time I have written this on my cellphone and each of the previous two, something happened and I lost my post. I hope this time is different. I use a hybrid of the two styles above. For each scene in my novel I write a one or two sentence description. This sets the boundaries for my characters to work within when telling their story by gives them the freedom to tell their stories. Allow me to explain. During a NaNo session I found that a novel plot that lasted ten days was ideal. Each chapter covered an eight hour period divided into morning, noon and night (30-32 chapters depending wheter a prologue and epilogue was included). This worked well for NaNo's 30-day window. Each chapter usually has 1-3 scenes depending on the number of locations there are. There is a Windows-based program that I recommend that accommodates all three styles: pantsers, outliners, and my hybrid style. It is called yWriter. There is an Android version, but I don't recommend it. It's too clunky. An Android app I do recommend is the Novelist. It is similar, and I use it as I do yWriter. I have only tried the two versions of yWriter and the Novelist identified above. Watch this YouTube video to get an idea of the features available. Then if you are interested, go to the software website and download it. It is FREE. (Full featured version). The Novelis is available from the Google Play Store.
