For sure you can use a hurricane as an antagonist, but it depends on the nature of your story. Urban fantasy? Sure, have some entity create it. Realistic disaster story? Then it is part of meteorology and these things happen. Horror? Maybe it releases some long-buried entity. As I said, anything can be an antagonist. But, even if you do believe in "evil" (and this is not the place for that discussion/debate), pure evil in a character will make it a cypher or trope or stereotype and the reader will have trouble getting into the story. There still needs to be something about them that is not plain nasty. In my opinion. |
