no place to hide

The scared blue eyes returning her gaze looked familiar. The cute freckled guy from the airport was in her room. He stood, white-faced, arms and legs wide, his back flat against the wall.

"I don't understand how I got here or where the hell I am." The words came out in a hoarse rush. "You're the girl from the airport. I was checking my bag and someone pushed me. Now I'm here." He shook his head and cautiously moved away from the wall, stretching a hand out to balance.

"My bag made it too." Frowning, he stepped toward a gray backpack on the bed. "What's this yellow tag?"

Kanya fixed her gaze on the bag. A shiver of fear raced up her spine at the sight of the innocuous yellow tag. There was something very wrong with that tag.

"No! Don't touch it." She leaped forward and grabbed his hand. Those startling blue eyes met hers and she swallowed quickly. "I can't explain it, but the tag is wrong. Everything is wrong. The beach, the blue skies. the people I've met here. It's crazy but I trust you because I know you were there at the airport right before the world turned upside down?"

"It's not smart to trust strangers," he said. "My name's Justin. Now we're not strangers."

He half-smiled. "I think I'm dreaming or I've else I've cracked up. I've been under a lot of pressure lately. This could be my mind's way of..."

He didn't get a chance to finish.
