"Please," the man said. Clearly the word was an effort for him - not in his character at all. "Just look after the kid for a couple of days. That's all I'm asking. You seemed to get along on the plane and you don't look like a child molester. I'll make it worth your while."
Kanya paused. She still couldn't fathom the relationship between the two. What were they to each other? She didn't like to leave the boy with this man who clearly didn't care about him, but looking after a kid wasn't anywhere in her plans. And besides, her cousin would be waiting.
She shot the boy an apologetic look. Sorry to leave you stuck with this jerk.
"Sorry," she said, more to the boy than to the man, "but I have other plans."
She hefted the little duffle-case, turned on her heel and headed for the doors.
"A grand. I'll pay you a grand!" the man called after her. Kanya's pace faltered, but she kept walking. Not her problem and she didn't need the money.
"...a day!" He yelled. "A grand a day for two days! Please!" Now he was begging.
Kanya stopped. Without turning she said...  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
