Central International Airport Chapter #7Perfect Getaway by: Unknown Kanya approached the desk, quietly glancing behind her to check she was not being listened to.
"Miss, can I help you?" The impatient staff member behind the desk grumbled.
"Yes sorry, I would like a one-way ticket on the next flight to New Zealand." Kanya didn't meet the man's eyes as she fumbled around for her passport and credit card.
"The next flight is in two hours, is that too soon?" The man said tapping away on his computer, obviously putting in all of Kanya's credentials. This made her a little nervous, her passport was fake and even though she had never been sussed out before it still made her catch her breath everytime she used it; as if anyone could read right through her.
"That's perfect. Thank you." Kanya smiled, trying to be as relaxed as possible. There was no way she could screw up now, not this far into the game.
Kanya paid, stashed her tickets in her pocket and left the desk, going towards the departure lounge. Once through security, she decided to get a coffee and some breakfast; suddenly she realised how hungry she was.
With a large coffee in one hand and a bacon sandwich in another, Kanya picked her way through the waiting people and seated herself next to a young, black man who was listening to his ipod. Safe enough, she thought to herself. A quick scan of the departure lounge confirmed she was on her own, nobody was interested in her today. No one had any idea where she was, this made her sigh with relief, she could relax.
Two relaxing hours later, Kanya full, refreshed and cleaned up the flight 407 direct to New Zealand was announced "boarding at Gate 4." Getting to her feet, Kanya made her way to Gate 4.
"Excuse me...Miss...Excuse me." A deep voice from behind Kanya made her jump. She span around and came nose to nose with the young black man she had been sat next to, minus the ipod and holding up a passport.
"Oh I'm sorry, didn't realise you were that close behind me." Kanya flustered and took a couple of steps back, the man smiled and held out the passport.
"I think you left this behind." He grinned.
"Thank you. Would forget my head if it wasn't screwed on!" Kanya gushed, relieved someone as nice as him had retrieved her passport, real or fake.
"Lydia right?" The man asked, Kanya frowned for a second wondering what he was saying, then she clicked, he had looked at her passport, her fake name was Lydia Renolds.
"Yes, hi. Lydia Renolds." Kanya tried to cover her puzzlement and stuck out her hand for him to shake.
He took it and shook it firm. "Conrad Bennett. And sorry for looking at your passport, very invasive of me, but had to be sure it was yours!" Conrad grinned again.
"Well thank you for returning it, I wouldn't be getting anywhere without it. You boarding for New Zealand also?" She asked politely, she didn't really want to be held up but he had been a gentleman.
"Yes yes, going to visit family out there, business or pleasure for you?" He ushered her to continue walking.
"Bit of both really, although I've never been to New Zealand." Kanya replied, aware he was watching her.
"Nice place, my brother and his wife and kids live there, haven't been for a good two years, but decided to tear myself away from work and make an appearance." Conrad chuckled, she liked his laugh, made her relax and feel at ease.
"Well, enjoy your flight Conrad, and thanks again." Kanya waved her passport at him in thanks and turned to the boarding staff.
"And you." She heard him say behind her.
Sat at her window seat, Kanya watched other people board the plane. A tired looking mother, a crying toddler in her arms and twin boys fighting over a colouring book were being directed to their isle seat, great a noisy flight, thought Kanya. Behind them, a couple, the man tall and muscly, the woman blonde and petite, obviously on their honeymoon from the twinkle in both their eyes. Kanya smiled at the sentiment. A short, thin man came after them, talking rapidly on his mobile phone, he looked angry, agitated like he wasn't meant to be there. Kanya hoped she wasn't seated next to him, she couldn't stand huffers and blowers.
"Ma'am..." A flight hostess was upon her all of a sudden, a pretty Asian woman with a sweet smile. "Ma'am, a Mr Conrad Bennett has requested you sit along with him in first class for your journey, would you like to follow me?" indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
