Chapter #9

Friends in High Places

    by: Unknown

"This way Ms. Marks.." Taffina felt her bodyguard's hand on her upper arm steering her towards the hotel lobby, but something caught her attention from the corner of her eye, a familier face? She paused and turned her attention to the commotion that was unfolding before her.
There were two police officers both in uniform, one short and stumpy, the other tall, skinny and pale. The stumpy one was talking into his walkie talkie while the other was pushing a man into the back seat of the patrol car.
Taffina narrowed her eyes, squinting in the sun to make out the figure.
"Ms. Marks, please. We must go inside." Felix, her bodyguard once again gripped her upper arm. Taffina didn't much like Felix, he hadn't been working with her long and she made a mental note to talk to her agent about a replacement.
"Let go of me please." Taffina growled, a scowl on her face. She shrugged Felix off but his grip tightened.
"I'm here to protect you Ms. Marks so you must do as I say." Felix looked at her fixing an agressive, "Dont.Mess.With.Me" look.
"TAFFINA!" A voice Taffina definately recognised turned both her's and Felix's attention away from each other.
The man, being shoved into the patrol car was shouting to her, his free arm, which the officer was trying to get into handcuffs, was waving in her direction. Still Taffina could not make out who the man was though.
"TAFFINA!" He called again, this time with an urgent tone to his voice. He needed help. Roughly pulling away from a stunned Felix, Taffina began marching towards the patrol car. Everyone was looking at her, Felix especially. She tossed her long bleach-blond locks over her shoulder and approached the officers.
"Excuse me officer, is there a problem here?" Taffina purred, the short, fat officer stopped talking into his walkie talkie immediantly, mouth hanging open, tongue lolling out like a dog in the heat, the other, taller officer looked over his shoulder at her, her prettiness stunning him and he began fumbling around with the handcuffs.
Out of the corner of her eye, Taffina glanced at the man half in and half out of the patrol car. Justin Avery, the sexy redhead she had encountered on the plane. What a coincidence!
Waiting for the officer to answer her she placed a manicured hand firmly on her shaply hip and pushed her sunglasses from her eyes into her hair, her sparkly blue eyes on the officer.
"Nothing for you...for you to worry about Miss." The policeman stuttered.
"What is this man accused of?" She asked, giving the officer her trademark smile.
He blushed. "Do you know this man Miss Marks?"
"As a matter of fact I do, and I would like to know the reason you are shoving him into a police car, you will make him very late for our date." Taffina could see the effect she was having on the poor man, and she watched Justin, his mouth open in awe.
"I'm afraid that's classified miss," a voice from behind made them all glance towards the hotel, "if it isn't Taffina Marks?" A laugh escaped the mans lips.

"Patrick Daniels...Is that you?" Taffina smiled, a warm smile at Dectective Daniels who was making his way towards her. Once he reached her he leant in and kissed her on the cheek.
"Hello Taffy." He said, a twinkle in his eyes.
"I didn't know you were a dectective now. Suits you." Taffina grinned up at him, a man she used to hold so fondly in her affections.
"Well, you know, these things happen. Looks like you're trying to make my job harder though." Patrick nodded towards Justin Avery who was now stood, unhandcuffed watching both Taffina and himself.
"I always did get in the way didn't I...I was just asking your officers here what was going on, Justin is a friend of mine." Taffina winked at Justin, this was going to be easier than she had first thought. Especially now Patrick was on the scene.
"Justin Avery has been arrested for a suspected murder Miss Marks, I must take him downtown." Patrick said professionally.
"That's impossible Pat, Justin is with me, has been since we got off the plane." Taffina explained.
"Then how do you explain him being in a room, alone, passed out with a dead body lying on his bed." Patrick asked playfully.
"I asked Justin here, to go up to my room to check that everything was ok, me being a big celebrity and all, the REAL killer must have knocked Justin out." Taffina said matter of factly.
"Is this right Mr Avery? Is this your alibi?" Patrick turned towards Justin.
Justin nodded, "I'm innocent Dectective. I was just looking out for Taffina, then this guy out of nowhere..." Justin began.
Patrick held up a hand to stop him, he turned back to Taffina.
"Is he staying with you?"
"Yes, we will now be staying at my uncles beach house, you know it Patrick. If you need to question him, please feel free to drop round." Taffina stated.
"Yes yes, ok, Mr Avery you are free to go, BUT and I mean but...do not under any circumstances leave the country. You will be hearing from us." At that Patrick hurried his officers back into the patrol car, nodded his goodbyes to Taffina, got in the drivers seat and sped off.

"You can thank me later, FELIX, change of plan."

You have the following choices:

1. Justin goes with Taffina to the Beach house

*Noteb*
2. Declines and goes back into the hotel to investigate
