This choice: Justin refuses to talk about his work and wants answers from Thad  •  Go Back...
Chapter #12

Pieces of the puzzle

    by: Unknown
"Ararat? What the hell has Ararat got to do with you?" Justin was confused, yes he had been working on something pretty big at Ararat, something pretty special but he had no idea why Taffina Marks would have any interest in it herself.
"Justin just tell her what she needs to know, she's a very powerful woman and it would be best if you just co-operated." Thad pleaded with him.
Justin turned to his brother and caught the fear in his eyes, obviously Thad was going to be in some big trouble if Justin didn't come up with goods but there was no way he was letting his brother go on this one, Thad was about to let him go to jail for a crime he didn't commit, how could his own brother allow that to happen?
"I'm not saying anything about my work Thad until you tell me what the hell is going on, how on earth did you get caught up in all of this? And why the hell did you try and set me up?" Justin was on his feet now, he felt Taffina's eyes on him, an amused smirk on her face. She was clearly enjoying this.
"Yes Thad I must agree with Justin here, when you told me you knew someone who would take the fall I had no idea you would give up your own brother!" Taffina drawled.
"Look Justin, please, you have to understand, I'm in too deep here, I needed you to help me out. I'm sorry." Thad put his hands up in defeat backing away from Justin a little.
"Why didn't you tell me you had been kicked out of the army? You know I would have helped you out, and now look where you've ended up. Seriously Thad, I thought you were smarter than all of this." Justin gestured to Felix and Taffina.

Thad was sweating, he didn't know how to answer his brother. He loved Justin, he admired Justin. His brother had always been the one to look out for Thad even though Thad was a year older. But deep down inside Thad knew he was jealous of Justin, the son that had achieved more and was the favorite in their parents eyes. Maybe that was why he had framed him, he didn't really know but he knew now that he had lost his brother's trust and respect and this hurt.
"Justin please, just tell Taffina what she needs to know and then we can sort this out later, I need that money Justin."
"I'm bound in a contract with Ararat Thad, if I release what I'm working to anyone I could lose my job and my status. I have a lot riding on this contract Thad." Justin ran his fingers through his hair and sighed.
"They will kill me..." Thad whispered.
"Who will kill you Thad? What have you gotten yourself into?" Justin had reached Thad now and reached out to him, Thad grabbed hold of him in support.
"Justin, your brother owes someone very powerful, much more powerful than me, a lot of money. He got in to deep on a job that went wrong and now there is a price on Thad's head unless he gets this man his money. You can help him out here Justin, if you co-operate with me then Thad gets paid." Taffina stepped in.
Justin glared hard at Taffina.
"So what will it be Mr Avery?" She pouted.
