Hi Purple Holiday Givings ,
This review is a part of "I Write in 2024" [13+].
My apologies for any messy typing - I injured my hand but will do the best that I can.
Overall Impression:
This is a lovely, utterly refreshing story, dear Theresa. It shows how love heals, and transforms - how it can give a person a purpose and brighten each and every day.
It shows how jaded I am by contemporary romance that I kind of expected things to go wrong. A car accident, or a betrayal, because that's how stories go these days - when someone's found the right person for them and they've finally found that special happiness something must go wrong. There must be that shock, that drama, that pain. That emotional load placed on the reader. I am so glad that you didn't do that here. The couple found the other, built a good life together, and now they get their happily ever after. Thank goodness for them, and for us.
I love how the main character saw what love shouldn't be and decided to do better. I love how Jessie is a strong, independent woman who still enjoys their special routines and finds ways to show how much she cares. I agree that I do not know how couples can be utterly horrible to each other, day after day. Why not instead find ways to make the other smile? They needn't even be big things. It doesn't even take that much to show someone matters. I like the way that Jessie shows that she needs her partner, and the way that the both of them check in on the other. They've found what works for them.
You have a great writing voice, making for a smooth read. I enjoyed your characters. The overall message of the piece. All in all, I think you've done an excellent job here.
Suggestions:
I have just the one suggestion:
Paragraph 3:
There is a stray 'An' at the end of this paragraph - that can be removed.
My Rating:
As you can no doubt tell I think you did well with this piece. I enjoyed the read.
I did have one tiny suggestion, but I don't feel that it should affect the rating. Therefore, I shall give this story the 5 out of 5 I feel it deserves.
Thank you for sharing your work.
Write on!
