Happy Account Anniversary Write-fully Loti ,

I like the shape and image of the poem before reading and see word combinations or single words on a line, like ‘Paperwings’ right in the middle of this structure…so visual and poetic with a bright, cheery message, much like our acceptance of these beautiful, hapless-seeming creatures fluttering about in our natural settings. What contributes to my consumption of this short poem is how it flows with the quick interconnected expressions of observations. Not only does this encompass two quick sentences, every word is integral, important and nothing wasted to delay a reader to dive right in.

I’m keen on the narrative voice, as it intones the title description, “in search for simple happiness.” This statement alone, when held up to the poem, adds another dimension in appreciation of the read. By poem’s end, the observer opines about the butterfly (that at the outset depicts such gaiety), surely it is the antithesis of happiness. However, this is a vision that we seek to obtain, as with our own spiritual pursuits, projecting on the creature one’s own feelings about blissfulness. This is the nature of poetic romanticism…we seek truth and enlightenment when in truth life is a dark, unfulfilling experience, at times. But, in that moment of joy in reverence for the grand beauty and awe of a free floating, colorful thing, there is happiness. In fact, serves as serendipity, depending on how rare the occasion to spy in splendor the thing with beating wings navigating wind.

I find truth just in the poem that has encapsulated all of this. The tender cage is a poem from a mind that preserves a happenstance to share a construct of natural beauty. A happening that inspires the joy reactor in each of us, so easily entertaining a reader and reviewer why we write. An artist paints what they feel so an observer can consider similar experiences and feelings that it frames our thoughts wonderfully, as your poem beautifully does here in such brevity. It may be irony the poem is just like a brief glimpse of a butterfly, sharing the same space in time.

I was very pleased to note all the energy and interconnectedness revealed with a careful but natural write. It is the essence of nature, joy we seek, a few truths about mysteries of life, with notes of revelation and existentialism, without barely having to try…effortless like your title subject. So easy, too, to read and review and share my reaction today, settled in woods at a cabin by a lake. Great reading material.

A pleasure,

Brian
