Hello, Jeff!
INITIAL IMPRESSION / OVERVIEW:

I enjoyed reading your highly educational and interesting "Reviewing" article every time I read it, including today.

Your writing kept me riveted and I read straight through to the end.
MORE DETAILED FEEDBACK:

Happy Writing.Com Anniversary month! I read this "Reviewing" article of yours sometime in the past and enjoyed it, but didn't have time to review it right then, so I flagged it for an anniversary review (meaning I saved the link to it in a special "February" file.

). I hope you enjoy this review as a celebration of your time here and find the review uplifting and encouraging.

I loved your honesty. Starting out by addressing expectations and then even saying this: "And it's difficult (and a tad hypocritical) to expect detailed, quality feedback from others when you don't provide it to other authors." So true.

Your example using "Indiana Jones" to differentiate between concept and story line was helpful to me, and I'm sure to almost everyone who ever reads this piece.

One of my favorite parts of this article was the list of questions in each section. My favorite of the questions was this one: "If you had to summarize this story in one word... what would that word be, and why did you choose it?" I like the boil-it-down and critical thinking aspects of it. For this article, it'd be helpful. Well done!

Your questions listed in each section were well thought out and helpful too. I don't often review stories, but this is something I'm going to bookmark for when I do in the future (and for when I have more time. Admittedly, this method is great, yet it is also time consuming, at least it seems like it would be. I haven't actually done it yet). Also, I liked that you used the question emoticon for each of the questions in each section as it added visual interest throughout your article and kept it visually appealing.

Your use of bold for the subsections also contributed to the visual interest of the piece, and its readability. Had this been one giant block of unbroken text, I doubt I'd have re-read it today. And I might not have read it in the first place, or decided to save it for a future anniversary review. Having it look appealing does make a difference to whether someone will read it once they open it, or just go "gah!" and close the tab (or page or whatever they use).

I didn't notice any spelling or grammatical mistakes (or mistakes of any kind) in your article on reviewing.

I thought the reviewing, how-to, and reference genres you selected for this reviewing article were perfectly appropriate matches for it.
IDEAS TO MAKE YOUR PIECE STRONGER:
In the spirit of helpfulness, and because of the requirements of a new reviewing challenge I joined recently, I have one little suggestion to make your piece stronger. If you're interested in some constructive criticism, read on. But if you aren't, no worries. Just know that I enjoyed your piece and move on to the next section.
Still reading? You're brave! Yay for you!

The only thing I can think of to improve this article would be to include links to a few exceptionally good reviews, so your readers can have some examples to follow. Especially, I think it'd be nice to have at least one of your reviews on the list.
As with any review, please take what serves you and release or ignore what doesn't.
CONCLUSION:

I enjoyed reading your "Reviewing" educational article, and it gave me a lot of food for thought for future story reviewing.

Thank you for sharing your time, creativity, knowledge, experiences, and writing with the Writing.Com community!

Once again, happy anniversary month! I hope the year ahead is filled with blessings and joy for you!
May love, joy and peace be yours in abundance during your anniversary month, and always!
