Why I Write
When I write, I draw on my experiences as a woman with a painful past, a rapturous wife and mother, a world traveler, and a spiritualist. For me, writing is an art form. Like an artist, the work becomes more than I imagined it would be. When I set out to write a story with a particular idea or character in mind, words I cannot claim as my own flow from a magical and mysterious place through me and onto paper. The work takes on a life of its own; it is living art. The process fascinates me, satiates me, and makes my life more meaningful. Please read my stories! Short Stories - 2007

It's funny how life works. I'd written a children's story and wanted to market it. I didn't know how to go about it, but I knew I wanted to protect my copyrights to the story. I did a Google search with "copyright" in the search engine, and after a couple clicks I found myself on Writing.com's homepage. Hmmm, what's this? Click, click...interesting...click...and it's free?...my own virtual writing portfolio...member-to-member reviews...click, click...cool...how do I sign up?...click here...

And that was the beginning. I posted my children's story ("The Giving LessonOpen in new Window.) and three hours later I received my first review, from Cemetarykat says,Bring it on! Author IconMail Icon. I was thrilled. I have been on the site every day since, and WDC has truly become my home.

The stories in this folder represent the beginning of my exploration into the craft of creative writing. I'd never taken a class and had no formal exposure to character development or plot arcs, pacing or rising action, themes or conflict resolution. These stories could all be improved, but I don't think I'll return to them. *Smile* Maybe I'll rewrite them one day...but I think documenting my creative jumping-off point is important -- to me, anyways!
