As bluesy neon lights shine bright, My body drips with sticky sweat, It's hot in the city tonight. Below the silver skyline's height, Each person's just a silhouette, As bluesy neon lights shine bright. Gnats and millers circle in flight, A stranger lights a cigarette, It's hot in the city tonight. The stars are an uncommon sight, God and traffic sing a duet, As bluesy neon lights shine bright. Though I feel meek, soft and contrite, With a quickened heart I'm beset, It's hot in the city tonight. Those who worry, hunger or fight, Build an insurmountable debt, As bluesy neon lights shine bright, It's hot in the city tonight. (19 Lines) Villanelle: Consists of nineteen lines comprised of two rhymes. The first and third lines of the first verse become the alternating final lines of the next four verses.
