About This Author
I am a 40 year old married mother of two teenage boys. I live for writing, especially romance. Love the happily ever after scenerio. The best thing about writing for me is the ability to lose yourself in your work, and feel as if you've accomplished something great. At the end of the day, that's all that really matters.
Pummy's Fate
Prompt: Write a dialogue between a pumpkin and a Jack-o-lantern

“I didn’t always look this way. Why once, I looked quite a lot like you, Pummy.”

“You did, Jack? How’d you get this way then?”

“You’re so young, I don’t want to scare you.”

“But I’m not escared! I’m brave and have grown all summer.”

“Yes, you have grown into a beautiful, healthy pumpkin anyone would love to have.” That’s the problem.

“Is that bad?”

“Well. You need to prepare yourself for turning into a Jack-o-lantern like me.”

“Do I have to?”

“It’s inevitable, I’m afraid.”

“What’s invitable mean?”

“In -ev-it-able. It means like it or not, one day someone will claim you and you will become a Jack-o-lantern.”

“Does it hurt?”

“It doesn’t feel as good as rolling down a hill.”

“But I love to roll down hills. It’s so much fun unless I hit the post at the bottom.”

“Yep, that post will knock you for a loop, and I guess the pain from carving is a little more
painful than that.”

“Carving! You mean someone is gonna cut me?”

“That’s exactly what I mean. Besides, you’re already in transition.”

“I am?”

“Yep, you’ve got your eyes, mouth and nose already drawn out. It won’t be too much longer I suspect.”

“But what if I don’t wanna be a stinky ol Jack-o-lantern like you?”

“Get over it kid, it could be worse.”

“Worse!?”

“Oh yeah, there are worse things than being like me.”

“Like what?”

“Pumpkin pie.”

“Eww.”

“See, you know what I’m talking about now. I do have some advice for you.”

“What’s that?”

“Brace yourself for the impending infliction of a serrated edge.”
