About This Author
A changeling spirit,
constantly evolving,
revolving around an inner core,
spinning forth legend and lore,
stories and lives
as I come to grips
with who and what I am,
have been and may be.
I am a phoenix:
rising ever above and beyond!
The Thanksgiving After
Just another holiday marked by Santa and his sleigh
arriving on 5th Avenue, turkey, Grandma, and more chores to do.
It began the month of being good, of doing everything I should
so Santa would come and deliver my list.

Though young, I was taught to be polite, to say thank you, kiss the folks goodnight,
but I didn't get a special day for something I always did anyway.
My life was as perfect as it could be; until it wasn't, because you see--
that fall I learned all that might be missed.

That Summer I went temporarily blind; my life went dark, the world unkind.
We didn't know how long it'd last; if my sight would return or be a thing of the past.
I had to learn how to do everything new: stairs, reading, matching shoes.
There was no point in my fate to resist.

After more surgery, my sight returned and I realized just how much I'd learned.
More than being now able to see, I saw what that vision meant to me.
Suddenly Thanksgiving was far too small to ever be able to express it all.
