I'm as heartsick as an orphan is alone, For the one I love has left me by the road, For the music of our love made not a sound, While the melody of life remotely flowed, We were drowning in the bluest blues around, And the deepest darkest shadows became home, When faint beating of our hearts forgot to pound, And our sinew cried aloud for strength to roam, As the blues bore down upon us like a stone. The best tonic for a love life gone astray, Let the bluesman come and play the blues away. The Onzain is a French form. Onze stands for eleven. The Onzain counts eleven lines, and each line contains eleven syllables. The rhyme scheme for the Onzain Neerlandaise: a-b-c-b-c-d-c-d-a-e-e
