Love Peeked Out
Love Peeked Out
By Marilyn Mackenzie

A beating heart.

For so many years
Love hid under the surface
Of my mind, my heart, my being.
Love, hidden away, wanted to erupt,
Wanted to rush forward,
To just be again.

Sometimes loved peeked out
Into the scary world
When some fellow seemed kind
Or wanted to hold my hand
Or ached for love and hugs
As much as me.

Then love hid again, waiting
For something different,
Searching for something grand,
Longing for something alive.
I worried that the hidden love
Would be buried forever.

Then came you - my knight,
My rescuer, my love,
Clothed in God’s armor,
Just what my heart sought
And knew existed
Somewhere, somehow.

Today, my heart hides no more.
It prances and dances in full view,
Telling the world of true love,
Love that kindled while hiding.
This awakened love is one we shared
Before we even met.
