This choice: Another passenger bolts out of line  •  Go Back...
Chapter #3

Lost in Reverie

    by: Barmymoo
At that second, a man in the next queue a few people behind Kanya shot out of the line of people. He ran hard towards the exit, heads swivelling to watch him. Kanya was impressed by his speed but it was a futile attempt; before he'd gone five paces the police were on him like a pack of vultures.

As he was dragged away by two large police officers, his bags being collected by a woman in a dark blue suit, the other passengers turned away with a buzz of excitement. Kanya, with no one to talk to but herself, pondered briefly on what he might have done but was more occupied with her own troubles.

She tossed her recently-styled hair, still marvelling at the change in her appearance since that morning. She had left the hospital, the concussion gone surprisingly fast and the superficial bruises healed up on her arms and legs. Only the cut across her stomach was yet to fade, but even that was less painful now.

Kanya forced her thoughts in a different direction, trying not to remember the pain of that last, hopefully forever, beating. Amazingly she was feeling confident and full of energy. I'm going to be fine, she thought. I've done the hard part now. I've left him, and I'm not going back. The buzz of excitement filled her mind again and she couldn't stop the smile bubbling over her lips and spilling into the atmosphere.

The man behind her cleared his throat loudly, causing her to notice that the queue had moved up quite a way while she was lost in thought.
