Central International Airport
This choice: Kanya stays on board  •  Go Back...
Chapter #6

Musical Seats

    by: Ram Effect
Kanya decided to stay. There were too many passengers blocking the door anyway. Flight 843 was about to take off for the Bermuda Triangle, where she could disappear. And she still wanted to talk to Jason, though she wasn't going to get to do that until she got to Bermuda.

Jason Abraham sat down in row 19 at the window seat opposite the side of the plane where Kanya's seat was. She caught Jason's eye, and thought he looked miserable there even in the window seat. She exchanged his forlorn look. Now the flight was going to be boring for both of them even with other passengers to talk to. But he was seated now, and the other passengers in row 19 sat down too. That cleared the way for Kanya to return to her aisle seat in row 22.

Kanya moved forward going past her seat and stopping. Standing in the aisle, she waited for the other passengers to be seated. She didn't want to get up again if she didn't have to. But then she heard somebody cough behind her, and she moved herself to row 22 to let the man past. She didn't sit down, deciding to stay standing until the passengers had all boarded. She glanced back at row 19, wondering if she could trade seats with somebody. But it looked like a family was sitting by Jason. Even if it wasn't, Kanya doubted anyone would let her move. Kanya didn't want to draw attention to herself, and that might just do it. Kanya also wondered if someone else would get the window seat beside her. But it remained empty.

So finally the last passengers boarded the plane and Kanya sat down with a sigh. She patted the gems she had hidden in her clothing and felt the reassuring bulges there. She was lucky to get them past the security checkpoint, but now that she had, she would be home free once the plane took off. Trying to relax she fastened her seatbelt and waited impatiently for the flight to get underway. She briefly wondered what that stewardess meant about that weight-and-balance thing, and what Jason had meant by his remark about there not even being loaded yet. Kanya shrugged to herself and put it out of her mind.
