Central International Airport Kanya didn't awake until they were almost to the airport. After the turbulence, she'd waited to see if the man wanted to attempt conversation. When he didn't she'd shrugged, leaned her elbow on the window and dozed off. She was curious about his grumpy demeanor, but since she technically should still be in a hospital she was exhausted. The escape had taken a lot of effort, and she hadn't been able to stop running until she boarded the plane.
Though it was a small wonder that she had been able to sleep at all. She'd been looking for signs of Raul or his workers constantly ever since she'd left the tiny apartment he'd let her have. Even when she'd boarded the plane, she kept glancing into the other rows for hauntingly familiar faces.
Now she felt more rested that she had in days. A smile on her face, she put her small carry on over her shoulder, waited for the usual rush of people to pass her in the aisle, and then left the aircraft. She was in baggage claim minutes later, the man with the kid who wasn't his coincidentally by her side.
Grabbing her lone, small suitcase, she checked her watch. The Bermuda Triangle hadn't been a random or rash decision. Her distant cousin lived in a flat nearby, and Kanya was supposed to meet her out front in ten minutes.
"What do you mean, she quit?"
Kanya jumped at the exclamation, whirling around to face the man who'd said it. Big surprise - it was the man she'd been sitting next to. The kid was sitting in a nearby chair, a bored look on his face, while his traveling companion screamed into a cell phone. "Well, find a replacement, or I'll be needing to get a replacement for you, understood?" He then angrily closed his phone and shoved it in his pocket.
She knew it was rude, but Kanya couldn't help but stare at the way the man had carried on line that in front of a small, apparently scared young child. Shaking her head, she almost turned to go when...
"Hey, you!"
Whirling around, Kanya tilted her head in surprise. "Me?"
"Is there anyone else my eyes are looking at? Yes, you!" the man huffed, crossing his arms. "You want a job?"
Amazed at her luck, Kanya simply stared at him. | Members who added to this interactive story also contributed to these: |
