Central International Airport This choice: Catch sight of Max and follow him • Go Back...Chapter #6Catch sight of Max and follow him by: Unknown She quickly gathered up her bags and said to the gray-eyed man, "Um, the taxis are this way, follow me" They stay a safe distance behind the group containing Remillaire and his body guards. The last thing Jessica needs is to be recognized, but she can't lose him until she knows for sure that he'll be staying at the Plaza.
They stand outside the airport and the Remillaire group gets into a shiny black stretch limosine. This made Jessica snort under her breath. You'd think the agency could at least get her a car with a driver with what she had done for them so far on this case. But no, she'd have to settle for a regular old Parisian taxi cab.
The gray-eyed man hailed a cab and he put Jessica's bags in the trunk. She climbed in the back seat and told the driver to go ahead and follow the limo in her worst French. She was feeling testy today. Maybe it was PMS. Or maybe it was him....
Once they were both inside the cab, they were free to speak. "I see they've assigned you to help me. I thought I'd be working with Sheindlin." Jessica said with contempt. Even after so many years together, she could never resist his eyes, and after years at the agency, you learn to never reveal that you know someone who has just given you the secret code.
"What's the big deal Jess? We knew this could happen eventually."
"But now? When I'm my biggest mission with a known gangster. Geez Phil, I'm in danger already. And now I have to put up with the danger YOU could get me in! I told them I could work alone"
"You're good baby, but you're not that good. Besides, I'm just here as back up. You'll still run the show - like always" This last part Phil said much quieter which sends Jessica into a rage.
"I'll tell you what Mr. Ex-Husband, I HAD to run the show because you sure didn't want to and someone had to. You had no interest in our marriage, no interest in our relationship, and a whole lot of interest in that damn female agent. So I was the one who did everything while you did nothing. I hope you can manage to do something this time because it could mean BOTH of our lives if you don't!"
Phew, that felt good Jessica thought. She hated to bring up the past and the anger again, but he just brought it out of her. The cab had arrived at the Plaza and, as Jessica had hoped, the black limo was parked right in front of the cab.
Jessica reaches for the door handle and   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
